William Shackleton N.E.A.C (1872-1933) 'Resting' Watercolour, Signed and dated 1898.

Huon Mallalieu, in his definitive book 'English Watercolour Artists' describes Shackleton's work as "the product of a powerful, romantic imagination". Born out of his time, Shackleton ploughed a lonely furrow, producing ethereal, often luminously beautiful watercolours and oils that placed him outside the tides of artistic fashion. He was influenced by Turner, particularly, but also by Whistler, Menpes and oriental art, all of which can be seen in this graceful, delicately beautiful watercolour.
